How the principles of the care Value Base and care workers鈥?responsibility promote patients service users righ?

It's been 5 years since I studied Social Care, but here goes:

I would imagine the care workers responsibilities are things like. treating the client with respect; upholding the clients dignity, promoting autonomy; respecting the client's privacy and maintaining confidentiality; listening to the client; empowering the client; advocacy and so on. Does that sound familiar to you?

Empowerment and advocacy would be two of the ways that clients rights could be promoted by the care worker. Dignity, privacy and respect are also rights that should be upheld by the care worker .

Here is the Nursing care value base according to wikipedia, although there are several variation of it. ( I couldn't remember the specifics offhand.)

1. Promoting anti-discriminatory practice: Carers have a duty to promote anti discriminatory practice in their professional lives.

2. Maintaining confidentiality: Clients must know they can trust their carers. Clients may be put at risk and their self esteem may be lowered.

3. Promoting and supporting individuals' rights

4. Acknowledging individuals' personal beliefs and identities

5. Promoting effective communication

These principles and responsibilities provide a framework which is designed promote service user's rights and should underpin all practice in social care work.

You will need to do more research around the concepts such as empowerment and the principles of best practice as well as service users rights.

Look at the UN declaration of human rights and if you can get your hands on anything by Neil Thompson it would be a great help to you.

Good luck,
