Wg will start to show its true yellow over time, but platinum will scratch almost immediately and look dull.





Platinum is 90 to 95% pure while wg is 58% pure for 14k. With the price of plat being almost twice as much as gold, and having a much higher content makes the cost about three times as much as wg.





The world lives on a budget. Why pay three times as much for a metal that shows scratches and dulls immediately, or pay 1/3 for a metal that will show a bit of yellow after a year? (And that can be fixed by rhodium plating, a treatment which can be done for about $25 dollars US.)





You will get more money back on the resale market for plat, but that is because you will pay more for it. Plat is also harder to work with so more often there is a higher labor markup which you will not recoup when reselling.

Why do people value batting average over on base pct. or slugging?

IMO, the two most important "rate" statistics for hitters are on base pct. and slugging pct. OBP measures a hitter's ability to extend an inning/create scoring opportunities by reaching base (and not wasting outs) while slugging measures the ability to advance a baserunner. Without either of these, you can't score.





But it seems that batting average is still the "main" number in some people's minds. Why is that?|||I agree that obp is more important that batting average, but you do want to know if a hitter will be able to knock in a runner who's on second... Slugging pct. might tell you that but batting average is just something way simpler and in fact more reliable, because even if you get only 1 base, chances are the runner on second will be able to make it in. If a hitter's slugging pct was .800 and their avg .200, there's not much going for that batter... He gets a few long hits every 5 at bats... not great for knocking in runs because he might be at the plate with 2 runners in scoring position, and chances are he won't hit either of them in. You wouldn't be able to tell that from his slugging pct but his batting avg tells all|||ummm some guys are not good hitters and get on base thru walks/HBPs or force outs so the average truly shows how good of an hitter someone is





but i do agree OBP should be considered as good as an indicator as AVG for a player|||its because the batting average is basically your on base percentage and slugging because when you get a hit it extends all three of those the batting average generalizes it|||They say a hit is as good as a walk but I hits are still more exciting.|||There is a DIFFERENCE between a HITTER and a BATTER.





A HITTER gets hits and advances baserunners. (BA, SLG)


A BATTER gets on base and tries to advance/score HIMSELF. (OBP, SLG)





Many players are both great hitters and great batters, but they don't have to be both. Most of the time in order to be a great hitter, you have to be a great batter. You rarely have to be a great hitter in order to be a great batter, however.





Barry Bonds is a great batter, but not exactly a great hitter.

If one was left over it would start bragging and going on yapping. If it was an acid, it would turn you sour on the whole process. And if it was the base, you would just be bitter. Seriously neutralizing would depend if the strong acid was sulfuric acid which would take twice as much base as the other monoprotic strong acids. The second acidic hydrogen on sulfuric acid is not strong, resulting in a final pH of the neutralized solution that is not 7.|||Strong acid and strong base would neutralize one another and you would get a pH = 7 (neutral pH)





Strong acid and weak base would tend towards an acid pH (around pH = 2)

Plushenko performed an old-school program, more typical of those designed before the new judging system was implemented in 2004. In such an old-school program, skaters load their jumps in the first half of the program.





Under the new scoring system, jumps in the second half receive a 10 percent bonus.


Plushenko did five jumping passes in the first half of his program and only three in the second half.





Lysacek had three jumping passes in the first half and five in the second half.





Lysceck picked up 37.77 points from his jumps in the second half, about 3.5 points of which were the 10 percent bonus.

What the article doesn't say is the reason they're giving jumps higher scores in the second half of a skater's program is because the skater is more tired in the second half, so the jumps are harder then. Makes sense. Anyway, it's not Canada -- this is the way it has been scored since 2004. Plushenko should have known that and planned his program accordingly.
