Finding the base value for a graph from completing the square.?

When completing the square, you have the equation (X-3) squared = 16, is the base value fro the graph (3,16) or (-3,16) - and how do you work it out ?|||If (x - 3)^2 = 16, then x - 3 = 卤聽4.

x = 3 卤聽4

x = 7 or-1|||to complete the square you first expand the first part giving you x^2-6x+9=16, then you subtract 9 to get x^2-6x=7, then you take half the b value which is 6 giving you 3. Square the three and add the new value to both sides giving you x^2-6x+9=16, subtract 16 giving you x^2-6x-7=0 then factor to get (x-7)(x+1) so x=-1, 7
